Heaven's Delight

About Niraj

Heaven's Delight

I was born in Belfast in 1972 and raised by Indian parents. After 18 years experiencing the best and worst of both cultures, I moved to England to pursue my acting career. While attending drama school, I realised I couldn't act to save my life - plus, there was a scary resemblance to Jabba The Hut in a leotard.

Two years on the dole followed - that was a painful and lonely experience, however, I discovered the joys of writing sitcoms and screenplays. After ten years of struggling to find work and projects almost getting made, my tenacity succeeded when I was hired to write for popular children's shows like The Story Makers and Hana's Helpline. Writing for various parenting magazines after the birth of my daughter followed. My big break was co-writing the Anglia TV drama, Stanley and Me.

Inspired by gifted writers like Sophie Kinsella, Carole Matthews, Jennifer Weiner, Zoe Barnes, Chris Manby and Richard Curtis plus the magnificent J.K. Rowling, it was time to have my own voice shine through on a big scale. It took almost eighteen months to get Heaven's Delight into perfect shape. It had to be appealing to women, yet different to anything out there. Rom Com meets magical adventure.

Heaven's Delight is my debut novel, part of a romantic comedy trilogy. The Matchmakers will be available February 2008. Download Chapter 1 of The Matchmakers.
